Simple Ways to Build and Foster a Grateful Workplace<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Say \u201cThank You\u201d frequently\u2014and mean it!<\/li>\r\n<li>Keep a gratitude journal and share it with others\u2014especially those you\u2019d like to thank\u2014and:\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Write \u201cthank you\u201d notes or emails<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>Acknowledge and celebrate together as a company.\u00a0Gratitude has a multiplier effect!\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Start\u00a0a \u201cWall of Gratitude\u201d \u2014physical or online\u2014for all to post and contribute to<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>Make a mental note to thank every Veteran you come into contact with.\u00a0It will make their day.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2>Hoffer Spotlight Q&amp;A<\/h2>\r\n<div id=\"attachment_285\" style=\"width: 257px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-285\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hofferplastics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Tom-Devens.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"247\" height=\"247\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-285\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tom Devans, Veteran and Director of Supply Chain Management<\/p><\/div>\r\n<h4>How did you land at Hoffer and what has been your journey to your current position?<\/h4>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>I came to Hoffer following a layoff at a large retail toy company in the mid 90\u2019s. Hoffer was looking for a Customer Service position so I sent them a resume. I didn\u2019t know anything about the company at the time but I knew I could do the job based on the ad. I received a call back for an interview. I remember commenting to my wife after the interview that I really wanted to work at this company. They came across as honest, fair, and loyal to their employees.<\/p>\r\n<p>Needless to say, I ended up getting the job. One of the things that I learned quickly about Hoffer was that if you want more responsibility, you need to communicate the want and be ready when the opportunity presents itself. In a few years I moved from Customer Service, to Project Management, to Logistics, Purchasing, Materials and finally into my current position as Dir. Of Supply Chain Management.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<h4>From your time serving, what are some core skills you\u2019ve taken with you into the workplace?<\/h4>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>Integrity above all else &#8211; Integrity to others and to one\u2019s self<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>Being able to work thru adversity to get the job done right<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>Teamwork matters. Everyone needs to be on the same page and moving in the same direction. Whether you\u2019re the leader or the newbie, goals need to be shared.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<h4>If you could share some advice with Veterans applying for jobs, what would it be?<\/h4>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>Be open minded to opportunities. The skills that were learned in the military provide a strong foundation that employers want. The ability to communicate. The ability to function as part of a team. The ability to work a problem to get to a shared goal.
